Can anyone tell me if I can distribute the AFPL version of PDF Creator, to computers that I manage. I currently manage around 250 machines + 6 Citrix Servers, and I'm looking for a simple PDF printer for these.
I'm confused about the licencing, but I thought I could Argue that these computers are maintained by me (wether PDF Creator is installed or not) and as such I wouldn't be commercially distributing it.
But it could also be argued that I am charging my employer for various IT Tasks, including maintaing PDF Creator.
Does anyone have anything difinative to help make the decision about this.
Thanks
Hello,
distributuing PDFCreator in your network is not commercial distribution. These are two different things:
If you work for a company and want to use PDFCreator, then this of course is possible and whether every user installs it on is own or if you install it for them does not matter. You are always allowed to use PDFCreator.
You are also allowed to pass it on to other people, this is the way distribution is meant in the AFPL. This becomes commercial distribution, if you take an unreasonable amount of money for this (in plain: selling our program ;-) ). It is allowed if you take a small amount of money for the CD-Rom you put it on or something like that.
I hope this was easyer to understand, if not, feel free to ask.
regards,
Philip
