Adobe Reader 6.01 won't print to PDFCreator

OS is Win98se (old machine VA503+ AMD K-II 450) cannot get Adobe Reader 6.01 to print to PDFCreator, though Foxit will print just fine. Foxit tends to hang the machine unpredictably, so not a reasonable alternative. I believe I've tried every reasonable choice of settings in the Reader selection, and I don't see what else I could change in PDFcreator to make this work, but hope someone knows some hidden setting/switch.

Print on Foxit brings up the pdfspooler and, while slow, it works, as long as the machine doesn't crash.

With Adobe, it just sits there if you start the pdfcreator first, both apps using about 2-5% CPU time, no show on the pdfspooler. If you use the shell option, it doesn't work either, but the PDFcreator CPU usage goes to 85-90% and stays there until I kill it. Also, a file in the directory from which the pdf was read usually shows up, named 'pdfcreator', no extension, which appears to have script contents suggestive of an abortive attempt by pdfcreator to write a file.

Thanks for any suggestions
