Does the monitor always need to be running?

I think I remember printing PDFs when I first installed PDFCreator (standard install) without having the PDF Print Monitor running. Now when I try that, I get in the log:

7/20/2006 4:30:19 PM: UseINI: False
7/20/2006 4:30:19 PM: InstalledAsServer: False

and a window that never refreshes itself, that I have to forceably close. Do I have to have it installed as in server mode (or perhaps just running as a service with srvany) to avoid always having the Print Monitor open?
