Strange behavior creating PDF from AutoCad PS file

I am using PDFcreator 0.9.2 and have run into a strange problem which occurs when converting a PS file created by AutoCad 2000 to PDF. The font used in the AutoCad drawing is "romans". This is a san-serif type font. I'm pretty sure AutoCad exports the letters as vector images to the PS file.

When creating a PDF from the PS file using Acrobat Distiller, everything is fine. When creating a PDF using PDFCreator, all the letters that are composed of only vertical and horizontal lines (E,T,L H, F, I) are noticeably thicker than all of the other letters.

I have compared the settings from PDFCreator and Acrobat Distiller, and the settings seem to be the same. When zooming way in on the letters and comparing the two PDFs, the above mentioned letters are noticeably different. The ones in the Distiller PDF have very smooth outlines. The ones in the PDFCreator PDF have somewhat ragged edges. The other letters are nearly identical between the two documents, and have smooth edges in both PDFs.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem? Thanks for any help!

Thanks!

Joe
