Potential bug. After print, save dialog freezes unless print monitor running.

Hello,

First off, thanks to the PDFCreator team for an excellent piece of software. I tell everyone about it that asks about creating PDF's, and they all love it too.

Now, I am not sure if the problem I have is a bug or just a configuration / setup issue.

I have been having a problem which has been preventing me from using PDFCreator, until I started pushing to find the cause of the issue today.

Normally, when using PDFCreator I do the following steps.

1) Open Microsoft Word, or another application
2) Go to the application's Print menu
3) Choose PDFCreator
4) Press print
5) The PDFCreator window will pop up, asking for the title, author, etc. I'll call this the "metadata" window. Fill it out and press "Save".
6) PDFCreator will pop up the "Save as" window, asking where to place my file.

The problem I am having, is that at Step #5 the "metadata" window does not appear. Whatever program I am using, however, gets a weird pattern of what looks like underscore characters ( _ ) on the main window. The window title is shown in my TaskBar, however if I right click it the context window does not show up, and I cannot switch to the task. My only option is to kill the process from Task Manager.

Today, as I was trying to figure out other options, I tried to print a test page. I had the same issue there.

I was then surprised, when I went to
Start > Programs > PDFCreator > "PDFCreator"
and launched to program, that I was prompted with the "PDF Print Monitor" with all of my attempted prints in queue. The "metadata" screen then popped up and requested me to save each one.

So, it appears there is either

a) a bug in the handoff from "print" to the "metadata" window
b) Something did not install correctly (perhaps a service is supposed to be running, or the monitor should be running in background?)

I do have the Setup Log, if required, and am willing to help solve the problem.

OS : Windows XP SP3
Frameworks: .NET 1.1, .NET 2 SP2, .NET 3 SP2, .NET 3.5 SP1

Thank you for your assistance,

Doug
