On my main machine, PDFCreator always prints by default pdfs with pages the same dimensions as the source document.
But on my new computer, this no longer happens, and even if I use PRINT / PROPERTIES / LAYOUT / ADVANCED / PAPER SIZE / PostScript Custom Page Size, and set this to the same size as the source document, the resulting pdf does not have the size specified (sometimes I get A4, sometimes Letter).
How can I get PDFCreator work as it does on my main computer -- defaulting to the page dimensions of the source document? And how can I regain manual control of page sizes?
Both machines are using Windows XP with PDFCreator 0.9.7
I have found the answer for myself. It works for me, anyway.

a thread on a Lulu self-publishing forum, where members need to know how to manage their pdfs:
It sounds like you need to set up a special Lulu size option in the printer control panel. Trying to set a customized page size from within an application doesn't seem to work going to PDF when using a PDF print driver. If you have Windows XP then do this:
1. Start/Control Panel
2. Printers and Faxes
3. File / Server Properties
4. Check to see if 6x9 (or your desired size) is already there... if not
5. Check box for Create a new form
6. In Form Name type in Lulu 6x9 (or ?x?), that way it stands out in the paper size options.
7. Set width to 6.00" (or your desired width) and height to 9.00" (or your desired height) leave margins at 0.00"
8. Click OK and exit all the Control Panel windows.
Now go back to Microsoft Word and try printing to PDF again with the new Lulu 6x9 (or your custom size) paper size option. See if that works.

Having done that, when you use PDFCreator you have to use PRINT / PROPERTIES / LAYOUT / ADVANCED / PAPER SIZE and select the new size that you entered in the procedure above.
As far as I can tell, this new paper size becomes the default size until you reset it. I am guessing that the setting is not retained thru a boot or restart, but I have yet to check this.
But this still leaves me wondering how PDFCreator, on my old machine, defaults to the page size of the source document.
