Multiple PDFCreator printers with different settings on one host?

2006-08-25 15:34:36 by anonymous

I'm using the PDFCreator 0.9.3 on a print server to offer our users a network printer for creating PDFs. I would now like to share an additional PDFCreator printer on the same print server to create restricted PDFs.
Unfortunately the PDF settings are stored under HKLM, at least in server setup mode. Therefore all PDFCreator printers would always inherit the same settings.

It is possible to create different sets of PDFCreator settings?
I have already setup additional printer ports and printers in the registry, which are still using the default settings. Is it possible to specify config files or scripts when invoking the PDFSpooler.exe, as it was possible with Redrun/Redmon?

Thanks for any help!
Christian.

Same here, i was also looking for a multiple instance setup.
I could use a setup, where i can setup multiple PDF creator printers, with a relavant (to me) printername change, and have each print to a different autosave directory.
Any possibilities now, or this one for the wishlist?

Regards

Hi Didi,

at the moment it is very complex to create a multi printer installation, but it is possible. If I found time I will make a description in german (my english isn't good).

Frank,

i managed to install a second instance of pdfcreator but i do not understand how to pass another .ini to it.

Steps taken:

1. installed PDFCreator with /UseINI switch
2. printer port Type "PDFCreator" named "PDFCreator 2" added
3. new printer added named "PDFCreator different INI"
4. fake driver used for install
5. changed driver to PDFCreator in properties

how do i have to change port settings to make it use another custom ini?

i'm totally stuck figuring it out on my own.

I don't know about the server installation, btu the client installation creates one set of registry entries for all PDFCReator printers. what is needed is a separate set of registry entries for each printername, and then have the printername opassed to the program

I a,m sorry only in german

Also:
1. Schritt:
wenn PDFCreator schon Installiert
deinstallieren

Start: Ausführen: pfadX\PDFCreator-0_9_3_GPLGhostscript.exe /UseINI

2. Schritt:
nach Installation Rechner neustarten

3. Schritt:
die PDFCreator.ini (C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\[Default User]\Anwendungsdaten\PDFCreator) kopieren und umbenen

4. Schritt:

Verknüpfung von PDFCreator kopieren
unter eigenschaften Ziel zb: D:\Programme\PDFCreator\PDFCreator.exe /OptionsFile"D:\Programm Daten\_Dokumente und Einstellungen\PDF\PDFCreator1.ini" angeben

5. Schritt Programm mit dieser Verknüpfung starten und einstellen (nur die Sprache Rutscht immer ins englisch)

6. Schritt:

Drucker bzw. Port einstellen
DruckerX Eigenschaften: Anschlüsse: Konfigurieren: Arguments for this programm are: -PPDFCREATORPRINTER -OptionsFile"D:\Programm Daten\_Dokumente und Einstellungen\PDF\PDFCreator1.ini"

7. Schritt:
Neuen Drucker Installieren:
Nicht Folgenden Anschluss verwenden
sondern: Einen neuen Anschluss erstellen: Anschlusstyp: PDFCreator Port Name: Selber ausdenken

8. Schritt:
für den zweiten PDFCreator 3. - 6. Schritt wiederholen.

So wenn das jemand nachvollzoiehen kann und auch noch ins englische übersetzt das ganze an den PDFCreator Programmierer/in schickt damit das vielleicht auch mit in die Hilfe kommt wäre es gut

gruss Micha

Any chance of someone translating that explanation into english?
Tried Babel, and it couldnt handle it...

Would be great.

I tried babel as well. What I got I tried to use (I guessed the words it couldn't fill in) and it resulted in nothing useful. If we can get a real translation that would be awesome!

It is very easy if you have an running PDFCreator installation

1. add a new printer (for example the first Apple printer)
2. change the driver to PDFCreator
3. Add a new Port based on PDFCreator for example PDF
4. copy the setting from pdfcrator port to the new PDF port and change the entry "-PPDFCREATORPRINTER" with
-PPDFCREATORPRINTER -OptionsFile"C:\path\to\my.ini"
5. Create an Inifile for PDF creator described above and you are done.

If you wish to use PDFCreator to edit/Create your INI-Files you must first deinstall PDFCreator and reinstall it with the parameter /UseINI then PDFCreator switches to ini-file instead of registry. But while saving there is an bug with the languagekey - it defaults allways to english

I hope this helps

Anton

i agree with this... what about adding a small utility to create printers after the base install, with options of pdfspooler directory, config file, and various others, the main thing is to be able to make/remake printers without fail and with less hassle than the current one since i tend to change the pdfcreator directory as i install new versions ( since i don't always remember to delete the old one.

hi micha,
ich übersetz mal:

this is a translation of Micha's explanation how to install multiple pdfcreator printers with different settings.

1. deinstall any existing pdfcreator
run pdfcreator.exe /UseINI
2. Restart computer
3. copy pdfcreator.ini (in c:\documents and settings\Default user\application data\pdfcreator to c:\myoptions.ini
4. change startmenu link to: c:\program files\pdfcreator\pdfcreator.exe /OptionsFile"c:\myoptions.ini"
5. Start programm with parameter of step 4
6. configure pdfcreator printer port settings change arguments from -PDFCREATORPRINTER to
-PDFCREATORPRINTER -OptionsFile"C:\myoptions.ini"
7. Install another instance of PDFCREATOR
8. Create new port for newly installed pdfcreator
9. Repeat steps 3-6 for every individual printer setting.

hope this works
