PDFServer 0.5.1 - looking for testers too ;-)

Submitted by peterh on Sun, 2007-11-25 15:52.

It's taken longer than I thought, due to increased work pressure and busy times at home too... but PDFServer is now in beta stage.

"Whatsitdo?"

PDF Server is a Windows service that will pick up a PostScript print job file, and, depending on what you’ve configured, use PDFCreator to convert it to a PDF file or a TIFF file. It will then (if you’ve told it that you want it to) store that file in a directory, and/or (using the SMTP protocol) mail the conversion result to the used who submitted the print job, getting the user's email address from Active Directory.
PDF Server does all this using PDFForge’s excellent (and free) product called PDFCreator that we all know and love, so you will need to have that installed, on the server that runs PDFServer, to be able to use PDF Server.

Users who can print to this print queue do not need PDFCreator on their local machine... all they need to be able to do is print to that Windows print queue through a suitable PostScript driver.

"Whatsitcost?"
Nothing.

"Can I have the source code?"
No... unfortunately not. Some of the functionality in there is similar, if not identical, to the software I write for my boss, and there would be issues with intellectual property.

"I'd like to test that!"

OK... in that case, pop me an email at peter@dnl-core.net and I'll send you the software and documentation.

regards,
peter
