Pbl with PDFCreator and Quickbooks

Submitted by jean-philippe on Mon, 2008-02-04 10:15.

We have integrate the PDFCreator in our ERP system.
Problem:
Many of our customers use Quickbooks (witch install a PDF Printer Driver too)

When printing to PDF using PDFCreator.exe /NoStart /PF"'+filepath+'"'
PDFCreator fail finding his printer driver and find the Quickbooks printer driver instead 'QuickBooks PDF Converter'.

I check the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{0001B4FD-9EA3-4D90-A79E-FD14BA3AB01D}
key: Printerdrivername
And it's 'PDFCreator' no pbl.

Can i check something else ?

Artur Sá Menezes - Webmaster / Designer / Computer Science.

Dear Jean-Philippe,

(Item 1)- Some softwares tends to "get some services to itself" - conflicting with the others, making iterant questions to users (many times the same question), etc. An example is a simple use of a quicktime mov file -- the system tends to get the control of mov files to the Apple program -- and so on...

Well, I need to know how is your installation -- Explaining better, exactly how this customers are installed, to make a good diagnosis.

But, some solutions comes to my mind, independing of your installation:

Based on explained in the (Item 1) we can resolve it, placing some services "networked"; maintaining the printer service that have a conflict, isolated to the rest and acting as a [network printer]*. Thus, this* PDF driver "do not know" the others, because it is not at the same machine (Register) and serves anyone who request a print.

Other point to get adaptation is how and where the printed documents will reside. How to get it back. An good idea is configures a [stable place] to receive resultant documents.

Considering your actual installation, an important point to be checked is:
What is the Default Printer, client by client.

If, make certain printer as default resolves the problem, then, good. If not, forces the client to print in another machine - fact that may will contour the drivers problem.

Do you get the ideas?
Well, I think you will get ideas to resolve it :)

Otherwise, we will continuing to write ideas, here, about to resolve your problems.[***]

Artur Sá Menezes

[***] P.S. - There are many solution to you. One that occours after I close this section is::

Work with virtualization. Basically, the practice of virtualization resides in construct a machine (virtual - VM) inside a physical hardware (PhM). The more stable and flexible environment (software) that I use is made by VMware, Inc -- named VMware Workstation, that comes with "Manager" and "Player". I use the version 6 and I can run other Win-XP, or many Linux distro(s), or a MacIntosh, Win98, 2000, etc... all VMs "networked" (2 ways), all printing. The good thing is that each VM installation, completely independs of any other. Thus, it think that it is another good idea. One computer can run many VM at the same time -- all of it depends of its power.

___That's all for now___Thanks___
