Can't find gsdll32.dll. Please check the ghostscript-program directory

Submitted by trappem on Sat, 2008-05-10 21:55.

Looking for solutions:

When starting PDFCreator I get error message "Can't find gsdll32.dll. Please check the ghostscript-program directory (see options)!"

Following advice elsewhere on this forum, I downloaded PDFCreator-0_9_3_GPLGhostscript.exe but when I run it I get the message "Program already installed"

I have downloaded gsdll32.dll and it is resident in both my Windows/System32 folder and the PDFCreator folder.

I have restarted my computer after each step.

The error message persists. The options screen in PDFCreator for the Ghostwriter section is singularly uninformative (typical of Adobe products); the Ghostscript version pulldown is grayed out.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks Frank, that worked!

For the benefit of future readers, my system is Windows XP. Although I had installed PDFCreator.exe without a hitch, apparently one must also install PDFCreator-0_9_3_GPLGhostscript.exe in order for the program to work. This program won't install (thinks it's already there) unless forced.

In the Run dialog from the start menu, browse to PDFCreator-0_9_3_GPLGhostscript.exe. After the quote marks surrounding the filename add the text " /ForceInstall", eg:

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFCreator\PDFCreator-0_9_3_GPLGhostscript.exe" /ForceInstall

This fixed the problem. I do wonder how Adobe stays in business. Their software is powerful but often unusable due to issues like this. Their help files and support are consistently the worst I've ever encountered. If not for forums like this there is no way I could run any of their stuff - it just doesn't work. Thanks Frank!
