feature request: print pdf with pages as pictures

Submitted by Jack-Mendoza on Tue, 2008-06-17 09:12.

Hi there,

I was looking for a feature that converts the text or whatever you like to pdf to an image (jpg or png), but still makes a pdf of it, thereby remaining the document readible with several pages and navigation, rather than 20 separate image-files.

Why this?
Well, as google converts pdfs to html, all pdfs put on the web are now searchable. What seems useful on the one hand becomes more and more critical for some people, e.g. those organising events etc. as participant lists are usually put on the web. they can now be found by google, but also by robots reading the html and thus the email addresses. So participants get more and more weary because of the fact that a) they receive lots of spam on their "good" addresses (you don´t give a mailinator address on a scientific conference) and b) maybe don´t want the world and friends see on what events and conferences they were during the last three years.

I guess that google is able to use OCR on images as well but could imagine that this is much harder and time consuming so they wouldn´t do it for the time being.

Pdfc can both, produce images and pdfs. What´s needed is something that links these two capabilities (in a two step process?)

I am aware that there are hundreds of feature requests, but this is something that event big Acrobat is lacking and a real unique selling point (even if you don´t sell it, should I say spreading point?).

thanks,

Jack
