Maintain Original Document Size
How can I keep pdfCreator from adding additional "white space" or increasing the margins to my doucments?
When I create the PDF, pdfCreator adds space at the top (and bottom), which changes the appearance of the original material.
Is there an option that I have missed that will keep the original document size?
Also, if I create a PDF of a scanned document (say a utility bill), pdfCreator always make it a fixed paper size (say 8.5 x 11). If I use cutePDF or PrimoPDF they both create the PDF file the same size as the original - whatever the scanned size, that is the size of the PDF.
How do I get rid of this extra white space?
I far perfer pdfCreator but I want the document to retain the original size.
Am I missing something?
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I too have been frustrated by this problem. I've also been frustrated by this forum, as it seems to be filled with unanswered requests for help. I realize this is open source, but open source is only attractive if there is an active community supporting it. Perhaps PDFCreator has been abandoned??
I'd like to add one point to this discussion. The problem seems to be with the inter-line spacing. The fonts are embedded so there's no problem there. Also, you can tell by the left and right margins that kerning (inter-font spacing) appears to be accurate. However, either the line height or the inter-line spacing (or both) is not translating properly, thus reducing the size of the text body.
Version 0.9.5 is the only version I've ever used and this problem didn't happen when I started using PDFCreator. This suggests something changed with Adobe.
I still have Acrobat 6 and 5 Readers on old computers, and checking a pdf created with PDFCreator on both systems demonstrates the problem still occurs, so it's independent of which version of Reader is used to view the document.
Something is happening during the translation process, but since this error started happening without upgrading PDFCreator, it must be relying on another component on my computer -- perhaps a file associated with Reader??
I just tried another test. I loaded PDFCreator on the old system with Acrobat Reader 6 and voila! It works just fine. No big margins! So it seems very likely that the problem was introduced by Reader 7, but it's happening in the creation process, not by Reader per se.
Hopefully this will help the developers isolate and fix the problem... assuming they exist and read this forum.
