Maintain Original Document Size

How can I keep pdfCreator from adding additional "white space" or increasing the margins to my doucments?
When I create the PDF, pdfCreator adds space at the top (and bottom), which changes the appearance of the original material.
Is there an option that I have missed that will keep the original document size?
Also, if I create a PDF of a scanned document (say a utility bill), pdfCreator always make it a fixed paper size (say 8.5 x 11). If I use cutePDF or PrimoPDF they both create the PDF file the same size as the original - whatever the scanned size, that is the size of the PDF.
How do I get rid of this extra white space?
I far perfer pdfCreator but I want the document to retain the original size.
Am I missing something?
All that's happening is that your basic and advanced printer settings are set at A4 instead of Letter. There are at least two places you have to change it.
Additionally, for Word users, you may also want to check your print options and uncheck A4/Letter automatic resizing feature.
